'In the Pink of Health' Committee begins 10th Anniversary plans
Schau, Linton honored for their Project Mammogram Effort
Before getting down to business to plan the 10th anniversary of the "In the Pink of Health" Luncheon, planning committee members and the Northeast Hospital Foundation honored two longtime supporters of Project Mammogram which benefits from the annual luncheon.
"I want to thank Toni Schau and Fran Linton for their amazing work with Project Mammogram," Foundation President Tim Baker told more the 30 volunteers gathered at Memorial Hermann Northeast Hospital in Humble. "Thanks to Toni and Fran, and their countless volunteers, we're able to bring 'peace of mind' to hundreds of women – and men – in our community who benefit from our free mammograms."
Schau is a registered nurse and director of Project Mammogram at the Cancer Center. Linton is office manager for Project Mammogram.
Foundation President Baker also presented a $50,000 check – proceeds from last year's luncheon – to Schau and Linton. Baker announced that Project Mammogram once again would be one of the beneficiaries of the 2017 luncheon. The 2017 Luncheon Honoree will be announced at a later date.
The Foundation will celebrate the Luncheon's 10th anniversary on Friday, October 20, 11:30 am at the Grand Ballroom of the Houston Airport Marriott at George Bush Intercontinental Airport.
A portion of the proceeds from the "In the Pink of Health" luncheon, always held on the third Friday in October, help to fund the program as well as other initiatives of the Northeast Hospital Foundation.
Co-chairs for the 10th Anniversary Luncheon, once again, are Lynette Calfee and Nancy Shortsleeve.
The 2017 Committee include Dawn Allen, Suzanne Brown, LynAnn Centofanti, Angi Lewis, Kimberly Stokes, Robin Ardoin, Suzanne Croft, Chelsea Degueyter, Marco Ollervides, Elizabeth Tise, Sara Baker, Cynthia Calvert, Rhonda Dishongh, Joanne Pike, Erica White, Brooke Baugh, Brittany Cannon, Tracy Erwin, Carol Prince, Missy Williams, Tom Broad, Cristi Cardenas, Heather Ingalls, Tricia Racine, Audrey Winders and Leigh Rozelle.
Project Mammogram is a Northeast Hospital Foundation program housed at the Memorial Hermann Cancer Center-Northeast providing free mammograms and, if needed, follow-up diagnostics and treatment to Lake Houston residents who qualify.
Almost 8,000 Lake Houston residents have participated in the free services of Project Mammogram since conceived by Hospital employee Joyce White in 2001. The program performed 555 services last year including screening and diagnostic mammograms.
In addition to proceeds from the "In the Pink of Health" luncheon, Project Mammogram is supported by Memorial Hermann Northeast Hospital, community donations, volunteer support and annual grants from Kingwood Women's Club and Susan G. Komen Houston.
"Breast cancer screening is essential considering that one in eight women in the United States will develop invasive breast cancer in their lifetime," Schau said, "but not everyone can financially afford to be screened. Project Mammogram is here for them."
